About the Author

Rashid A. Saeed received his PhD in wireless communication from UPM, 2007. He served as senior researcher in MIMOS Berhad & then in Telekom Malaysia R&D where he was awarded the "platinum badge" as one of the best researchers. He is currently in electrical engineering, IIUM. He has published over 80 research papers, tutorials, talks, books, & book chapters on UWB, Femtocell, cognitive radio, & radio resources management. He also holds 2 U.S. patents & has filed 8 more. Saeed is a certified WiMAX engineer (RF and core network). He is also Six Sigma™, certified Black Belt based on DMAIC++ from Motorola University. He is a senior IEEE, IEM Malaysia, and Sigma Xi member. He is one of the contributors to the IEEE-WCET wireless certification, in its earlier stages.

Bharat S. Chaudhari graduated in Industrial Electronics Engineering from Amravati University, India, in 1989 then received his Masters in Electronics and Telecommunication and PhD from Jadavpur University, India, in 1993 and 2000, respectively. Presently, he works as the Principal of the International Institute of Information Technology (I2IT), Pune, India. Prior to this position, he had been the Dean of Planning and Development and Dean of Academics, and was heading the Department of Advanced Networking and Telecommunication at the same Institute. Dr. Chaudhari has more than 22 years of experience in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate as well as research in the fields of communication engineering, optical networks, wireless networks, and converging telecom technologies. He has authored more than forty research papers in international and national journals and reviewed conference proceedings in the field of optical, wireless, and telecom technologies. He was the recipient of a grant from Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under the Fast Track Scheme for Young Scientists for pursuing research. He has organized two International Workshops in the field of Low Cost Wireless Technologies in association with the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, and the International Telecommunication Union - Bureau of Telecom Development (ITU-BDT). Dr. Chaudhari is a Regular Associate to the Wireless Networking Group, ICTP, Italy, for the years 2007 - 2013. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and a Senior Member of IEEE. He is a Chairman of IEEE, Pune Section in 2011. His biography is included in a Marquis Who's Who in Science & Technology for the year 2006.

Rania Abdelhameed received the B.Sc. degree in Electronics Engineering (Computer Engineering) from the Sudan University of Science & Technology (SUST), Khartoum, Sudan, in 2001, & the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology (Advanced Networking & Telecommunications) from the International Institute of Information Technology (I2IT), Pune, India, in 2003, & the M.Sc. & PhD. degrees from the University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2005 & 2010, respectively. In May 2009, she earned the IEEE Wireless Communication Professional (IEEE WCP) certificate of the Wireless Communication Engineering Technology (WCET) Exam. Since 2001, she has been a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Electronics Engineering at the SUST & a part time engineer at the Computer Center, SUST. She has been member of the technical staff of the Broadband Wireless & Blue Nile project, Space Telecom & Cushnet, Khartoum, Sudan, 2003, & technical staff of Web Education (WebEd), UPM, 2005. She was awarded a Postgraduate Training Fellowship to pursue the M.Sc. & PhD degrees from the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) formerly TWOWS, & the Academy of Science for the Developing World (TWAS), Trieste, Italy.

About the Author
David Streiner attended the City College of New York, and then did his graduate work in clinical psychology at Syracuse University. In 1968, he joined the newly-formed Department of Psychiatry at McMaster University, and became the Chief Psychologist at the McMaster University Medical Centre. In 1980, he also became a member of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster, and was the Deputy Chair of CE&B for two years. He was one of the founding editors of Evidence-based Mental Health, and is currently editor of the Statistical Developments and Applications section of the Journal of Personality Assessment, as well as being on the editorial board of numerous other journals. Geoff Norman attended the University of Manitoba as an undergraduate, graduating with an honours degree in physics in 1965. He did graduate work in nuclear physics, obtaining a PhD in 1970. At that point he began a career in health sciences education, and subsequently obtained an M.A. in educational psychology from Michigan State University in 1977. He joined the faculty at McMaster in 1977, and has remained at McMaster for the next three decades. He has won numerous awards in medical education, including the Hubbard Award of the National Board of Medical Examiners (US), and lifetime achievement awards from the Medical Council of Canada and the American Educational Research Association, among others. In 2001, he was awarded a Canada Research Chair. In 2007, he was elected to the Royal Society of Canada. He has published over 200 papers in education, epidemiology, psychiatry and physics, as well as authoring and editing several books.

very nice book, excellent practical advice

I really like this book and wish that I'd found out about it before my psychometrics class in the spring started, because I would have assigned it in a heartbeat. It's got a lot of the kind of practical advice that anyone thinking of creating a scale REALLY needs to hear first, including the #1 bit of advice: Should you make one yourself? For instance, excellent summaries of the work on scale usage biases by Jon Krosnick, Norbert Schwartz, etc., give useful cautionary information for scale constructors. I have a few disagreements---some of the advice about procedures such as some of the scaling methods they mention is out of date, for instance, and the chapters on factor analysis and IRT are a bit weak, but I can cover that with other material. It certainly doesn't detract from the value of the book overall and I've learned a bunch I didn't know reading it. It'll be on the syllabus next time!

This is undoubtedly, one of the best books I have read in this area. The authors follow an appropriate sequence in terms of addressing scale development, testing and analyses issues. The best thing about the book is that it is really easy to comprehend and covers all the important areas. I feel it is a "must buy" for professionals in the area of health-related quality of life and outcomes research.

The book is extremely well written by people that know their field. For people interested in psychometry it gives a new perspective applying psychometrics in the health sciences. I found many applications and suggestions that were very useful.

I found this book easy to read and the information was interesting. As I also have ovarian cancer, I was very motivated in reading. I haven't made all of the same choices, but the information was though provoking. I would recommend it as a read to anyone with cancer who has to make these hard decisions. I have used some of the methods described and also followed some of the mainstream treatments and have successfully gone into remission. I think we should explore diet and general health of our own immune system. I gave 4 stars because I don't totally agree that cancer can be controlled without medical help. I have close family members that went totally with diet and non invasive procedures and resulted in her death in a very short time frame.

I had read about this book in Naples Illustrated magazine. I purchased it. I can't even remember the last time I purchased a book. I never have time to read so I only browse through magazines. I flew through this book. Easy to read and held my interest. I am trying to be healthier and learn more about alternative medicine especially since so many people in my family are victims of cancer. I hope to meet Ursula Kaiser one day or attend any seminars she may have. She is living proof that cancer can be fought without chemo and radiation. A real eye opener!

Excellent read! If you have been diagnosed with cancer you should give this a look! The author did so much research that you can use. Supplements, organics, what to change in your new world with cancer and how you can beat it naturally without traditional aggressive measures. Not for everyone, just those that want to heal the cancer, not kill your body.
