I've been looking for some southern style cookbooks, then I found this one. Let me say I'm not a pro chef by any means, but this book made me cook like one. It is full of tasty recipes that are super easy, and easy by step by step approach, with good explanation, and easier execution. My family was surprised with my new home menu choices, and even more how delicious they were. I am so glad I found this book, and will purchase others like it.

Not your average New Age Book

This book has been sitting on my shelf for the last few months. I have not wanted to read it because although I enjoyed the author's other work I have not really thought about cords as being that important. Honestly, I have tried a few methods and they all went under the category of new-age mumbo jumbo that just served to upset me because it wasted my time. But this book is a revelation, and I can now sense cords and work with them. I realize how important they are as the work had almost immediate effects on my relationships. I am not able yet to do some of the advanced work, but just the section on working with cords between people is worth the price of the book. I do wish that the author had taken a bit more time to professionally publish this, as it is obviously a self published effort, but the information is incredible so I will still rate it five stars.

Learned to love Dane too.

Once a jerk always a jerk, even if it is a jerk in love? I think I would have found it unbelievable if Dane has suddenly turned into a warm and fuzzy type of character. Instead Nadia Lee keeps Dane in character while allowing real love to come into his life. While he does soften up somewhat in his relationship with Sofia, he remains the harsher, hatchet man of the family.

By the time I had finished reading Billionaire's Forbidden Desire, I could honestly say I appreciated Dane and truly admired Sofia for being able to stick with Dane even though he certainly is not easy to love. As their story progresses much is learned about Dane’s family as there is about Dane’s and Sofia’s relationship. There is a depth in this book that is often missing in billionaire stories.

Sofia had lost so much but always seemed the more blessed person. I loved her character and could see how Dane was hopeless not to love her too. While Dane may be wealthy in a monetary way he is definitely in emotional poverty. Who knew that billionaires with baggage need love, it’s just that they are so much harder to love. Made me think of the Lee Brice song, Hard to Love.

Wow. I LOVED Dane and Sophia! Ms. Lee had me curious about Dane from book one. Why was he such a jerk? Why was he so cold to his parents and siblings? Did he really have ice water rolling through his veins and a stone for a heart?!

You get all the answers and more in this book. Dane is by far my favorite Pryce now. He runs hot and cold, but when he's hot. He's on fire. Sophia was sweet, and believed the best in everyone. Dane needed that after so long of everyone believing the worst in him. Their conflict broke my heart. Once it was revealed, I seriously had no idea how it was going to play out from there, and I LOVED it! I could not put this book down, and it has cured me of the book funk I've been in for the past 2 weeks. I cannot WAIT to read more from the companion series being released in 2016.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dane and Sophia's story I was hoping it would be one of the best if not the best in the series. So tell me this Nadia I do hope you are not through with the Pryce series because you do realize that even though they hate each other that Ceinlys and Salazaar deserve another chance to get it right. Please write this story because this series is not complete without it.

About the Author
Kathleen D. Bauer, Ph.D., R.D., was the founder and has been the director of the Nutrition Counseling Clinic at Montclair State University for more than 10 years. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate nutrition counseling courses. Her applied nutrition counseling experiences extend to wellness programs, fitness centers, hospitals, nursing homes and private practice. A major area of interest has been the development of innovative nutrition education programs and materials for the general public and higher education. Bauer has been director of the dietetics program at Montclair State University for the past 14 years.

Doreen Liou, Ed.D., R.D., has been the director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics at Montclair State University for the past ten years. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition education and social marketing. Her research interests encompass qualitative and quantitative methods in addressing chronic disease risk and the applications of social psychological theories in minority population groups. Her nutrition education experiences extend to a variety of academic, community, and clinical settings.

Carol A. Sokolik, M.S., R.D., was a founder and is currently the director of the Applied Professional Practice Program at Montclair State University. A dietetic consultant to several nursing homes in northern New Jersey, she has applied her nutrition counseling skills in a variety of settings including physicians' offices, nursing homes, and clinical settings.

Your History Revisited

I really appreciate the fact that the 2 previous reviewers took some time to give a critical analysis of this important book.

However, I would hope that in the future they would check their own facts before making brash statements, which themselves were off base.

First of all the author was not the artist who rendered the pictures for the book. In fact each page has his signature at the bottom. If the reviewers had done their homework they would have noted this easily discernible fact about the book.

Secondly, if they had noted this properly they could have done a simple search right here on Amazon.com and found that the artist had books out of his own on African American history.

Thirdly, this book is a reprint of the original edition published in 1940 by the author. It is now being published by Black Classic Press. The very first page following the copyright page is a "Publisher's Note" stating giving a brief synopsis of the author's history, a bibliography of books that he's written and information about the origins of the artwork.

This is important to note, because the book itself was a compilation of articles which appeared in Black newspapers all over the country. So, to charge him with being unscholarly, would be akin to calling Ripley of "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" fame unscholarly. These articles were meant to catch people's eye and give them cause to think about what African people have contributed to world history.

Lastly, the references given to J.A. Rogers other more scholarly books, which did contain references, was made on that very same first page. Admittedly, as Black Classic Press clearly states, J.A. Rogers was a "race" man and was attempting to prove a point, so at times some of his facts may come into question.

J.A. Rogers is "the historian" that was most vociferous in bringing to light many of the stories we now accept as being the bedrock of Pan-African Studies, or Black Studies. He was also known for using photography in conjunction with his historiography. This is a real sore point when acquiring his works now being published by large companies like Macmillian & Co., where the literally hundreds of photos of people or statues of persons have been excised from his major work "The World's Great Men of Color." This really diminished the impact of his work, because, as we all know, a picture is worth a thousand words.

In conclusion, I'll be the first one to admit that I just recently noted a discrepancy in a depiction of the 11 churches of Lalibela Ethiopia, which are monolithic structures carved out of the bedrock of the Ethiopian highlands. Mr. Lee made them look like large mudhuts, as opposed to the architectural masterpieces that they are in actuality.

Overall, I've noted the book is fairly accurate in it's portrayal of the personalities and events, but I wouldn't place give them any more, or less credibility than "Ripley's Believe It Or Not," whose museum in Hollywood is a real eye-opener.

So, while you're fact checking, why don't you check into the validity of "Ripley's Believe It Or Not." Meanwhile, I think I'll keep supporting African American Museums and historical sites, who undoubtedly owe a great deal to J.A. Rogers, as one of the pioneers in the study of Pan-African history. By the way the newest museum of African American history will be opening soon on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as a part of the Smithsonian, I wonder who they'll feature in their exhibits?

GOOD FOR MATERIAL, TERRIBLE FOR FACTS

Joel Augustus Rogers was a field anthropologist and "self-trained scholar" of African-American studies who has basically been forgotten today. This book 'Your History' is really a collection of various mini-articles about black people: famous, nonfamous, and infamous. It's a lighthearted look at various people, mostly those whom time forgot. The format of the book is akin to a comic book: on average, there's about 4-5 articles per page in which each has a picture (drawn by Rogers himself) and description of whom or what the article is about.

However, a warning is in store: Readers should take some of what Rogers says with a grain of salt. I say this because some of what Rogers asserts in some of his articles is painstakingly obvious bias for the African-American cause. Some of the "facts" are mere opinions that the "self-trained scholar" Rogers tries to pass on as semi-factual, and even then, these follies fall short of believability.

To make matters worse, Rogers fails to provide any of his reference materials for attentive readers. I'm not saying that I wanted a reference section because I think Rogers is a complete liar about everything he wrote in 'Your History' -- quite the contrary. But what I am saying is that in passages where he makes obviously biased assertions of people or places, he fails to list any reference material to back up what he preaches.

For instance, in one section Rogers explains to us that the Chinese Nakhi people contain a considerable amount of African strain in their blood... Although I've heard this Asian-African relation before, I can also say that I've never seen any reference material or anthropological, biological, etc., -type research to corroborate the statements.

Another example of this book shortcomings is the article of Muhammad, the Islamic prophet. Roger asserts it was said that Muhammad was very dark in terms of skin color. I've also read historical Islamic writings that state Muhammad was extremely light-skinned... the lack of references really makes Rogers' work suffer overall.

All in all, although this is an inadequate volume of any realistic and largely historical measure, it is "classic" for the simple fact that Rogers reveals the names and lives of many interesting black people whom we would literally never know anything about if it weren't for his work.

About the Author
Marko Kloos is a novelist, freelance writer, and unpaid manservant to two small children. He is a graduate of the Viable Paradise SF/F Writers' Workshop.

Marko writes primarily science fiction and fantasy because he is a huge nerd and has been getting his genre fix at the library ever since he was old enough for his first library card. In the past, he has been a soldier, a bookseller, a freight dock worker, a tech support drone, and a corporate IT administrator.

A former native of Germany, Marko lives in New Hampshire with his wife and two children. Their compound, Castle Frostbite, is patrolled by a roving pack of dachshunds.

Echos of Heinlein and Huxley

This book is extremely readable and engaging. I finished it quickly and felt disappointed that it ended and I am hoping for this to grow into a series. The book is a classic "Hero's Journey" storyline, and I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed "Starship Troopers" and noted a lot of the differences. Instead of Heinlein's "Citizen/Civilian" political dynamic that led to an almost "utopia" found in the classic "Starship Troopers" we find the results of generational welfare taken to the logical conclusion as the base setting for "Terms of Enlistment." The grit, dirt, and ugliness of the socialist dole life remind me of Huxley's "Brave New World" in dealing with the underclass. But the book is not about economics or politics, those settings are only there to explain the rational of characters which the setting does admirably.

The mercenary attitude of the protagonist is refreshing, not gritty or jaded but honestly working hard to scramble up out of poverty. The action sequences are well written and manage to convey crappy orders that grunts execute because that is just how the system works.

Out the "self-publish" league
By no so-called
Fine SF novel. Money well spent. Good entertainment, engrossing and real. Better than second-tier work from folks like Silverberg or whoever. Solid, visual, no-fat writing. Great technical skill at describing action, and he makes the most of his strengths. Strictly mature professional, no self-indulgence or slack, no major false moves, quite a trick for a guy with no editor. I didn't notice the prose at all, which is the highest praise there is for guys whose names don't end in Vance or Plunkett. Three or four minor "continuity errors", but nothing story-critical. I was uncomfortable with how comfortable the characters were inflicting casualties on massively outgunned opponents, but combat is ugly stuff by nature and that's a matter of taste. And they get chewed up real good soon enough (loose end there, though). It's a bit episodic, like any military fiction -- the characters have to go where they're told, though a clever enough plotter could make that work to his advantage, I'm sure. High concept: SPACE MARINES SEINFELD!!!!!

It doesn't rise to the first rank: It doesn't rattle your head -- though chapter thirteen starts off pretty intense. Characterization isn't deep. Not a whole lot of detailed interior life or conflict, or anyway not much that stuck in my head. More than the Lensman novels, though! But none of Smith's vast lunatic sweep and grandeur, either. Tight, focused, practical, concrete. With that kind of thing, I'd like a little (I said little) more interior agony b.s. in the mix, or some weirder stuff that'd grab you by the nuts more, but if the author just gives us more of the same next time out, I'll happily buy that and gobble it up. He is who he is. Maybe blow up some bigger stuff. The author is very good at describing stuff blowing up and bad things happening without sounding amateurish or perfunctory. I'd like to see him wreck the s#¡ t out of some Iain-Banks-scale toys.

So that's the deal. Good old fashioned gripping readable military adventure SF, without any Dicksonian mystical twaddle. I'll re-up (HURR HURRR HURRRRR) for the sequel.

It's horrifying this doesn't have a publisher. It's a quality professional SF novel, better than 95% (UPDATE: 99%) of the field these days.

Outstanding first novel!

Marko Kloos has written an outstanding first novel. He paints a convincing world view, drawing the reader into his creation and making us feel part of the narrative. He intersperses action with interesting perspectives on how society and the human race may evolve, and gives a gritty realism to his vision of the future. His own military service is evident in his descriptions of service life, training, etc.

There are only two moderately weak points - and I say 'moderately' with emphasis. It's hard to go into detail without giving anything away as a 'spoiler', but briefly, his account of a relationship between an officer and an enlisted person, while fictionally OK, wouldn't translate to reality in any military service of which I'm aware - the whole 'chain of command' thing. However, if one 'suspends disbelief' in that context, it works just fine. Secondly, the ending doesn't round off the story so much as leave it wide open for a sequel - preferably more than one sequel! I'll buy them, and read them with pleasure.
