Loved It!

This is one of my favorite series. I loved the first two books and couldn't wait for this one to be released. I was not disappointed. It had a very different feel than the earlier books. Not bad, but definitely different. The earlier books were more "light hearted", this one had a darker tone to it.
We knew most of Seras backstory, in this book we learn about Cages past. Neither had a great childhood. They both suffered loss at an early age, Sera had her family to help her through, Cage, had no one, and ended up on the streets and later got hooked up with Seras uncle, which led to his involvement with the mafia.
They have a lot of issues to work through, trust being the biggest. And Seras running instead of talking next on that list. But they do get there, it's a difficult journey, but a necessary one.
This book was an emotional roller coaster. The first third of this story, was heartbreaking, I was in tears more than once. The middle of the story, we get back to the happy group dynamic. Xander as always is hilarious. The end of the book is frightening. It has been hinted at in the earlier books that Sera has a temper and a short fuse. She has grown up in and been trained to protect herself by her mafia family. And we finally see her snap and go off her carefully maintained control. She is one scary supermodel when off her leash.
I only had one small disappointment with this book, and that was the length of it. The story itself ended at 74% on my ereader. Then there was the short story "A Very Xander Christmas", then several first chapters of new authors. While I liked the extras I would have like more Cage and Sera.
I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

*Sigh* Cage...I had NO idea!!!

Oh sweet Lordy...Cage is Super HOT!!! We did not get to know him as well as Sera in the first 2 books but getting inside this man's head was an experience! He is ridiculously hot and loves with all his heart. WHAT is NOT to love??!!!

I fell in love with this series from the very first chapter of Falling Down. Anne Mercier has an amazing ability that enables you to suspend reality and dive headfirst into a story without needing to come up for air. And really, I never wanted to come up for air. Each book proves just how talented this amazing lady is and why she will continue to be successful.

If you have not read any of Anne's books, I suggest you download Falling Down, like NOW, don't wait, just do it!

If you have read Falling Down and Blush, then you don't need me to tell you what an AMAZING book Amplify is! Can't wait for April!

I really like the series so far.

I gather we are only cracking the surface. Even though there are a sh- boatload of characters they are easy to follow. They each have distinct personalities which makes it so easy to follow the story. The first two books focused on Lucy and Jesse. This book is about Sera and Cage. The subplot bothered me in the first book because it took a while to sort out who was whom.

It's a Rockstar fairytale which means the suspension of disbelief worked overtime to keep my eyes from rolling out of my head. I like the fact that they did the reverse career changes so the Oscar-winning actress becomes a rock star unlike Jerad Leto, the rock star who won an Oscar. That almost didn't work for me but because the story focused on the romance it became secondary to the point where I did accept it..

In this book the subplot moves front and center, which made for a shift away from the Rockstar fairytale. I wish they would have kept that a bit more on the surface. There were a few things that happened off the page of the story, mentioned but never seen, that bothered me. Any details would create spoilers. Let's just say there are holes in the story that I don't believe can be filled moving forward.

I must admit there was a character shift that should have put me off the person but surprisingly gave me a sense of satisfaction rarely achieved in other stories.

I highly recommend this book.

Have bought these books for several years.

I have purchased and recorded Hallmark recordable storybooks for several years for my grandsons who do not live nearby. The boys have loved them and listen to them both with their parents and by themselves. We've never had any issues with the recordings. The books lay flat and the boys can lie on the floor to listen to them. It really helps me feel more connected to them. This story is short and simple and just right for my 3 year old grandson.

Steve Goodyear is an author and a SharePoint expert living in Vancouver, Canada, where he writes and works as a consultant and solution architect.

Previously, he worked for Microsoft as an Enterprise Consultant engaging as a SharePoint specialist with Microsoft's largest enterprise and government customers around North America to design technology solutions for their most challenging business problems. Practical Sharepoint ECM hits the mark

I just finished Steve Goodyears book Practical SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Content Management and my initial comments are that it not only is a great strategic road map for an organization putting together their ECM strategy using SharePoint, it also is a great technical collection of how to take SharePoint 2013 to the next level to really put a solid ECM Practice in place. If you are working on prepping and building your ECM, get this book. If you are a SharePoint administrator, this book has the practical technology explained at a level that makes sense yet makes you reach in and add that extra bit of missing knowledge to your Library, from an architectural basis, to the social side of ECM. This book explains how to use SharePoint ECM features clearly and technically accurate. A well written book that I highly recommend.

The next best thing to "an ECM easy button"

This is a good book for SharePoint consultants who need to get up to speed on Enterprise Content Management concepts and capabilities quickly.

The early chapters are a readable outline of the basic ECM concepts and terminology, for developers new to ECM and also valuable for project managers and executives involved in planning ECM projects.

Thorough discussion of ECM functionality follows, clearly driven by the author's experience. For example, electronic forms are addressed and the author shows how to implement digital signatures in Infopath. This is a common question on ECM and new SharePoint implementations so it's nice to see it covered in a reference book.

Good practical coverage of how to assign specific administrative rights by role, for example how to identify someone to manage User Profile services and even how to set up user photos using PowerShell.

The book includes a section on e-discovery that matches up requirements with nuts and bolts SharePoint functionality, including screenshots showing how to accomplish key tasks. The final section on Records Management is as valuable as all the rest of the book because of the readable and complete approach the author takes, clearly guided by a lot of hands on experience.

This is a good reference book for both SharePoint developers and Project Managers who need to articulate ECM concepts with customers. Highly recommended.

An Excellent Resource for SharePoint ECM

Practical SharePoint 2013 ECM by Steve Goodyear is currently the most dog-eared SharePoint book on my shelf. I found the book to be very well-organised, with many useful references to related topics. It's the most detailed and informative SharePoint book that I have recently read.

I found Goodyear's book to be a great resource for the nitty gritty details of ECM (e.g. his treatment of content types is definitive). Further, I appreciate his perspective as an ECM authority. Steve's wide-ranging experience makes for a thorough exploration of often glossed over topics in SharePoint ECM.

I enjoyed his discussion of "liberating collaboration." This is a critical concept for SharePoint-enabled companies to get their heads around. We often forget about some of SharePoint's best features for enhancing collaboration in the organisation and Steve's discussion serves as a good reminder.

Goodyear makes a compelling argument for tighter management of organisational content. This includes managing transitory content and developing methods for dealing with that content's eventual disposition or record declaration. Steve gives plenty of strong reasons for keeping your enterprise content tidy. He also provides excellent guidance regarding how to deal with this vital problem (pack rats beware).

Whether you are a novice or veteran with ECM, you will find significant value in this book.

The goal of this concise volume is to get the reader up to speed on what C# is and how it fits into the Microsoft vision for the new .NET. To this end, the book presents a solid tour of .NET features from the Common Language Runtime (and virtual machine) and platform features such as better control of deployment and interoperability with COM, as well as new APIs like ADO.NET (for databases) and ASP.NET (for dynamic Web pages). A software development consultant for Oakwood Systems Group (a Microsoft Partner company specialising in Internet solutions). He is an MCSD with fifteen years' experience using Microsoft development tools.

Simon Robinson
Former academic who specialized in post-doctorate computational physics & mathematical modelling, focusing on quantum physics and superconductors. He subsequently worked as 50% programmer and 50% evaluation / researcher for Lucent Technologies, until June 1999. Now working freelance, he has eleven years continuous programming experience. In addition to this, he is recognized expert in COM/DCOM/ATL, ADSI, Active Directory, MFC, LDAP, C++, VB and MMC.

Julian Templeman
Originally trained as a geologist, Julian progressed into programming in the late seventies. Subsequent to working in computer graphics and the oil industry, he now works for a London-based training and consultancy company, where he spends a large part of his time lecturing on C++ and Windows programming.

Karli Watson
Karli is an in-house author for Wrox Press with a penchant for multicolored clothing. He started out with the intention of becoming a world famous nanotechnologist, so perhaps one day you might recognize his name as he receives a Nobel Prize. For now, though, Karli's computing interests include all things mobile, and upcoming technologies such as C#. He can often be found preaching about these technologies at conferences, as well as after hours in drinking establishments. Karli is also a snowboarding enthusiast, and wishes he had a cat.

Should be called a .Net book instead

Don't get me wrong, the book was okay. However it was more about .Net and MS Visual Studio .Net than it was about C#. I think it lays a decent foundation. However I'm find myself looking for something with more substance on C#. In it's defense, .Net can be pretty confusing and you need to have a hold of it before you can use C# the way it is meant to be used.

Waste of money

This is a BAD book, if I ever saw one. Everything is extremely sketchy, and the logic in the examples given is so muddled, it's painful. It starts with pretty good, though, but quickly goes to complete garbage, designed to confuse you. I'm an experienced VB developer, I'd ashamed to produce the code that's in this book, and the explanations of the examples are outrageously incomplete. Don't buy this!

Best of the lot, so far

Once again, it seems like Wrox is rushing to be the first with a comprehensive work. Fortunately, this one is better than the book Introducing .Net. And, for sheer learning, it is the best book on C# on the market so far (still awaiting Inside C# from MSPress to see if they up the ante).
The first couple of chapters deal with very introductory level information. If you have been studying .Net, you will likely skim through these chapters. While there is some useful information, there are plenty of resources on this material.
The rest of the book breaks into C#. If you are a language purist, and good at reading material that is more like specs, you will likely find Eric Gunnerson's book more up your alley. For the rest of us, this tome is a far better option.
Of particular note is the fact that chapters have been thrown in on using COM and COM+ with .Net. As the help file is largely garbage on this, and experimentation is the way most of us are learning this, it is nice to have a runthrough of how to use legacy code (is it okay to call COM legacy now?) in our .Net apps.
The ASP.Net chapter gives enough information to get you started, but a few more chapters would have really added some meat to the book.
My personal favorite is the assemblies and manifests chapter, as the other C# books do very little to broach these subjects.
One thing I would like to see, once the technology has settled down (beta 2 is supposed to be feature complete), is a book on the .Net framework. I disagree that this book should have been the book to concentrate on that, but a bit more in depth traveling into the base classes would have been nice.
I am thankful that Wrox decided on four authors for this one, instead of the trend, as of late, of publishing yearbooks. It makes for a bit more consistent ride and less overlap of material from chapter to chapter. There are also fewer holes in this book than the Introducing .Net book.
If you want to get into C#, this is the book (at least as of February 2001). Once the technology is complete, all bets are off.
