Mosca's The Ruling Class - a primer in elite theory

The Ruling Class is an excellent example of early twentieth elite theory. It is a scathing retort to Marx and those who believe in a utopian vision without an elite. This book is clear and brilliant. It challenges the political thinker in a democratic society to examine the basic assumptions of democracy and representational government. This book is a must read for the political scientist.

Should Be Required Reading

I am thankful for the availability of this text, as it has been out of print (at least in my estimation) for a while. Mosca is credited with founding the theory of elitism and the doctrine of the political class. This is a most interesting and insightful work about the nature of, as the title suggests, the ruling class. In all societies, he argues, the end result is always a government by the few most wealthy or powerful individuals. Regardless of philosophy: communism, federalism, pure democracy, whatever it may be, they all seem to end up the same way unless kept in check by an informed populace. How timely for our day and age. My review hardly does this work justice. In my opinion it should be required reading in all introductory college courses on government.

Very sad

I have to concur with the other one star review. I only downloaded the sample and found inumerable, significant problems with the e-book conversion. Significant enough to render some sentences uninteligible.
I can tolerate some conversion problems but this was by far the worst I have come across.
A real shame becuse I really want the book but need a Kindle version in order to read it.
